Award-Winning Manga Artist Kohei Nishino Brings the Japanese Comic Book Art Form to Miami, Delray Beach and Lauderhill March 11 and 12

MIAMI, Fla. – Award-winning manga artist Kohei Nishino will host three free sessions and workshops for South Floridians of all ages to experience the unique style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels. Sponsored by the Consulate-General of Japan in Miami, the workshops include a Q&A session for visitors to learn more about the dynamic art form that captivates a global audience.

Pen like a Pro: Manga Workshop

5 to 6:30 p.m. at Tate’s Comics, 4566 N. University Drive in Lauderhill.

Kohei Nishino, a.k.a. Denjiro, made his debut in 1980 after winning the Best Newcomer Manga Artist award from Shogakukan, a publisher of literature, manga, non-fiction and other media in Japan.

Since then, he has published work in Shonen Sunday, Shonen Jump, Shonen Magajin, Combat Comic and Animal House magazines. Nishino has created artwork for various graphic novels and contributed his efforts to the animated film “Gundam F91.”

A former guest panelist at San Diego Comic-Con, he has published many works under his shared pen name, Konohana Sakuya. One of his co-authored manga, “Encounters,” won the World Manga Faithful Readership Award in 2002 and the Cultural Agency’s Jury’s Choice Award for manga at the 2003 Japan Media Arts Festival.

An Associate Professor of Arts at Kyoto Seika University, Nishino runs popular manga website Hana Maru Weekly.
