American Banker, a leading publication covering the financial industry, has named BankUnited Executive Vice President Lisa Shim among 15 people nationwide to receive its 2020 “Most Powerful Women in Banking: Next” award.

American Banker’s Next award, an extension of the “Most Powerful Women in Banking” feature that highlights high-achieving women leaders age 40 and younger, annually recognizes 15 “high-achieving women in the pipeline” and brings increased “visibility to those who are on a path to become the C-suite leaders of tomorrow.” The honorees are selected based on their accomplishments and influence that set them apart. Traditionally, those who earn a spot on the list are celebrated at a luncheon in New York City, which has been postponed this year.

In addition to her role as head of consumer and small-business banking, Shim also oversees corporate strategy, marketing and community development, and leads several large initiatives, including a multimillion-dollar digital transformation program to enhance the customer experience, and the new Go for More™ branding campaign. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from Kellogg School of Management.
