COVID-19: TooJay’s Deli Team Member Sews Face Masks for Coworkers and the Community

While many big corporations and popular brands are doing what they can to help communities ease the burden of the coronavirus pandemic, nothing lifts the human spirit more than stories of everyday people going above and beyond the ordinary to do their part.

Always proud of its team members, TooJay’s Deli is tipping its hat to Rosilene Costa, a cashier at the restaurant’s Hallandale Beach location who is sewing face masks at home for her coworkers and community. From the 1,200+ masks that Costa has made so far, she has donated the majority to Memorial Regional Hospital and to personal friends and family. TooJay’s now has her making masks full time for team members and the community.

“My heart broke when I saw the planet sick and my grandchildren’s future being threatened by this crisis,” said Costa. “Knowing how contagious this virus was, I decided to help by starting to make masks out of extra fabric I had with help from a video tutorial online and donating most of them to the hospital, since they desperately need them.”

To further support TooJay’s staff, TooJay’s Deli encourages guests to purchase gift cards, as 10% of gift card sales through April 30 plus TooJay’s contribution of matching funds are being donated to a special fund for team members impacted by COVID-19 pandemic.

“Now, more than ever before, we are thankful to have caring people like Rosilene on our team,” said TooJay’s CEO and President Max Piet. “We are grateful to all of our team members who allow us to stay open to serve our communities.”
