The achievements and influence of strong women around the world are the inspiration for the new “Femme in Depth” art exhibition at the Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center at Holy Cross HealthPlex.
Featuring the art of three dynamic female artists, “Femme in Depth” kicks off with a free gallery reception on Thursday, February 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Patricia R. Guerrieri Pavilion of the Women’s Center, located at 1000 N.E. 56th Street in Fort Lauderdale.
On display through March, the exhibition features the work of Niki Gilmore, Carla Golembe and Jennifer Haley, whose admiration for their fellow “femmes” is expressed through their art. Courage, creativity, empathy and integrity are just a few of the qualities that resonate with each of these acclaimed emerging artists.
“This vibrant exhibit is a wonderful representation of what we try to achieve in our gallery space,” said Vanessa Molina of Holy Cross Hospital. “Everyone encounters an inspirational woman at some point in their life. Whether it’s a mother, daughter, sister, friend, educator or celebrity, we all gain strength and wisdom through the actions and teachings of resilient women we know personally or from a historical perspective. ‘Femme in Depth’ pays homage to such women with a visual representation of the emotions they inspire.”
Presented in partnership with ArtServe, South Florida’s award-winning arts services organization, “Femme in Depth” is curated by ArtServe Curator and Programs Manager Sophie Bonet.
“Female strength strikes a chord in each of the featured artists and it’s evident in their artwork,” Bonet said. “Each of these talented women interprets that strength and power differently. As such, the pieces in the exhibit are quite varied but complement each other beautifully.”
Since the exhibit was installed, its content has garnered significant attention from hospital guests and staff alike.
“People have been commenting on the beauty of the artwork and the power of its message,” said ArtServe General Manager Hal Axler. “We’ve seen parents telling their children about Amelia Earhart, Mother Theresa, Frida Kahlo and many other influential women in a conversation sparked by this display. Getting original art out of the gallery and into the community where the public can see and experience it firsthand is the very core of ArtServe and its mission. It’s one of the many reasons why this partnership with Holy Cross Hospital is so meaningful and important to us.”
“Femme in Depth” is on display in the Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center through March. The exhibition and the opening reception on February 28 are free and open to the public.
